Description

The Johnson Controls K16RA-48H Heavy Duty Coaxial Thermocouple that is used to detect the presence of a pilot flame in gas-fired systems. It has a 48-inch lead and a 20-30 millivolt output range that transforms the heat in the flame to an electrical signal that drives the gas valves. It is fitted close to the pilot assembly and it will assist in preventing the flow of gases in case the flame is not present. With time, sensitivity can be decreased due to heat exposure. A defective thermocouple can be replaced, and this will reinstate proper flame detection and assist ignition system operation.

Step1: Shut off gas supply and allow unit to cool completely.

Step2: Disconnect old thermocouple from pilot and control valve.

Step3: Clean pilot assembly area before installing new unit.

Step4: Position new thermocouple tip directly in pilot flame.

Step5: Thread connector into valve and tighten lightly.

Step6: Route tubing away from heat sources and sharp edges.

Step7: Restore gas and test for stable pilot operation.
